Jahjaga: Regional cooperation accelerates European integration

The annual meeting of presidents of Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro, was held in Ohrid, Macedonia, this year. The joint message from the four presidents was that the future of their countries is in the European Union and NATO and that this is a strategic goal that unites all four countries.
Strengthening economic cooperation, supporting the free movement of people and goods, encouraging regional investments, links between chambers of commerce and joint projects to attract investments are, according to the four presidents, ways to accelerate the processes of European integration.
Kosova’s Madam President Atifete Jahjaga said in the future such presidential meetings would be joined by other heads of states from the region. “Extending cooperation will enable us a quicker European integration,” Jahjaga was quoted as saying.
Four presidents called on Serbian President Boris Tadic to no longer boycott this summit, a statement from the meeting concludes.
While Hilary Clinton and Catherine Ashton call for more agreements between Kosovo and Serbia. U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policies and Security, Catherine Ashton, announced that normalization of the relations and creation of trust through dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade opens the European future for both parties. “The recent agreements between Kosovo and Serbia under EU supervision facilitate dialogue. And this is a mutual positive and beneficial step,” according to the State Department.
Clinton announced that “now the agreement should be implemented and a more significant prosperity should be noticed especially in the north of Kosovo.”
At the press conference after the meeting with Clinton, Ashton spoke about her meeting with Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi in Brussels. “We have discussed possibilities to practically facilitate the lives of the people in the north,” said Ashton.
